Formed in 1958 with encouragement from Norman Buchan by Enoch Kent, Josh MacRae, Rena Swankie and Moyna Flanagan. It is noted that the group researched the history, lyrics and music of Scottish folk songs, which were published by The Scotsman newspaper. Scottish Television then signed the young band to perform these old songs weekly on the show Jigtime which helped them reach a very wide audience. Their recording of The Wee Magic Stane is said to have been banned by the BBC.
