Conducted and arranged by Ian Whyte (1901-1960) (above). These recordings are part of a set of 12 sides recorded in Glasgow in February 1937. Further sides will be added in due course.
John Purser writes of the conductor: “Whyte, the accuracy of whose ear was legendary, built up the BBC Scottish Orchestra, evoking unsolicited tribute from Sibelius for his conducting of the Finish master’s music”. Scotland’s Music p. 252.
