The soloist featured here is Evgeny Belyaev or Evgeny Mikhailovich Belyaev (pictured) (1926-1994) one of the most celebrated tenors under Boris Alexandrov. He was born September 11 1926 in the Bryansk Oblast, and served in the subdivision of zenith troops during World War II. He then graduated from Gnessin State Musical College. In 1947 he was a soloist of the Ensemble of Song and Dance of the Carpathian military district, and in 1952 a Member of CPSU (Communist Party of the Soviet Union). In 1955 he was a soloist of the Ensemble of Song and Dance of the Soviet Army of Alexandrov. In 1967 he was made People’s Artist of the USSR, and in 1978 he won the State Prize of the USSR.
