From a family of professional pipers, he enjoyed great success in competitions in the first decades of the twentieth century. He was associated with the Piobaireachd Society. These tracks are part of a set of the first commercial recordings of piobaireachd made for Columbia in the winter of 1926-7. The tunes were abridged to suit the time available on disk.
