He first found fame as a drummer and percussionist with a series of bands before enjoying success as a singer. Billed as ‘the smiling face of radio’ he was the compere of BBC radio’s Housewife’s Choice for over twenty years from 1942 and he was voted Britain’s top disc jockey for seven years. On moving into entertainment management he became responsible for Mantovani and his orchestra on 15 tours of the USA and three world tours.
